Celloop is a mobile app that recovers end-of-life battery cells for onward processing and second life use in students’ projects, renewable energy storage systems and e-mobility. The demand for li-ion batteries is growing in comparison to other chemistries in the global market.

These cells are most common in laptops, phones, power banks etc. Increasing power density is increasing its adoption in consumer electronics, automotive, medical and industrial applications. The more of these consumer electronics being produced, the more the waste we are confronted with. The li-ion battery market is estimated to grow from $37.4 billion in 2018, to $92.2 billion by 2024, at a CAGR of 16.2 % between 2018 and 2024.

Celloop has taken this up as a service to take the circular economy of e-waste to another level that has not been in existence before thereby helping in protecting the environment from harmful materials and providing access to affordable clean energy in line with SDG 7 and 13. Celloop services directly fulfills Sustainable goals 4, 6, 7, 12 and 13. 

Problems Worth Solving

So more than half of almost 50 million metric tonnes of e-waste generated worldwide ends up in landfills or is illegally transported.


Nigerians have a habit of dumping and burning wastes believed to be of no economic value thereby releasing pollutants including heavy metals and toxic chemicals into the air, water and soil. Over 4,000 tonnes of lead, 80 tonnes of cadmium and 0.3 tonnes of mercury are burned or dumped in Nigeria every year.

Risk Prevention

Modern electronics includes batteries of different chemistries and they can be as problematic as toxins like lead and mercury. The bigger fear is that a discarded battery can spark other material around it and if you have scores of them bunched together in a landfill, it then becomes a huge concern to the environment and its inhabitants.


Celloop is making efforts to keep these toxins out of landfills, where they can contaminate the soil and water. We recover them, process them and package them for a second life use in renewable energy storage, e-mobility as well as students projects.


1. We recover used and discarded battery cells from everyone and within our operational areas using our mobile friendly mobile apps.

2. The recovered cells are then processed, rejuvenated using our proven method and then repackaged for a second life use.

3. Battery cells can be customized and ordered for different projects using our mobile and web applications.
